[PCMS 2021.4] Antanas Jasenka - VOID 2

Antanas Jasenka’s VOID 2 has elements of ambient dub. The main rhythm is like a metronome at 130 bpm bolstered by a repeating bass synthesizer pattern. Distorted sounds are prominent and often swell in volume, yet fade away into the ambience. A few chords are dropped here and there: a nod to the label’s jazz influence. The piece utilizes patience, morphing over several minutes.

Midway through the composition, a higher energy, 190 bpm rhythm replaces the earlier sounds. The intensity continues to build, becoming polyrhythmic with 130 bpm patterns. The piece resolves with the gradual fade in of a new melody and harmony until halted by a distorted tone.

Composer Antanas Jasenka inadvertently influenced the sound of Pinecone Moonshine with the track sonic#002 released on the net label Entity Records in 2006. It generated an epiphany around layering, using unconventional textures, and using harsh sounds to make something ethereal.
